HS-15 :  working on the SH-3H (with the LN-66 RADAR).

Joined HS-15 in Feb of  '73 as an AT-3 maintenance man. It was an interesting time indeed. Lt. Roy Resavage was the division officer for  Avionics. I ran into him again in Jacksonville, Fl while he was serving as HS-1's CO and I was at the Helo Wing. 

We were stationed in Lakehurst, NJ and sailing on the USS Guam (LPH-9) out of Norfolk, VA. We operated in either the Bermuda Triangle or the North Atlantic doing sea control experiments. Essentially we hunted submarines working with the Marine Harriers. (Gotta tell ya, they had some astoundingly good pilots in those days. Still do.) Things that I remember from then still give me the heebie-jeebies. I was witness to one on deck crash {One fatality, the yellow shirt director} (Hu-ke too, as I call the SH-2 helo) and one near crash of a Harrier on take-off. (above mentioned Marine pilots) All kinds of interesting things happen on that boat. Buzzy learning to play the flute. <Jethro Tull influence>  Louis and I sitting on a tow bar watching a joint roll down the flight deck. Nearly puking every time I went down to berthing due to the protein fire fighting foam station at the bottom of the ladder well. The only ports I remember pulling in were Ft. Lauderdale and Lisbon, Portugal and in and out of Norfolk a bunch. The first time we were out long enough for us to get "Sea Pay" it bumped me into a higher tax bracket and I lost a couple of bucks out of my paycheck. While at Lakehurst I'd walked to town (only a couple of miles to the town of Lakehurst) if I wanted something not on base. The nearest town of any size was Toms River which had a music store and a movie theater. It was about 10 miles from base so a full day to walk there and back, but it was cool. One time I had to dodge a drunk (I presume) driver who came off the road towards me and didn't swerve back to the road until I went into the woods. I saw the movie "Paper Moon" there as well as hit a garage sale where I found and bought a box of comic books that had issues dating back to the 50's and early 60's. Nothing of extreme value but interesting still. Also bought a bike to shorten the time it took to get there and back. Left it behind when the squadron moved to Jacksonville, Fla. We worked out of hanger 2. It was a standard blimp/seaplane hanger, as was hanger 3. Hanger 1 was a different story. You could open the doors all the way and literally fly in and out with a helo. This was being used as AIMD and ABM school. (Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department and Aviation Boatswain Mate 'A' School (now at NATTC Pensacola, FL). One end was used as a regular hanger for small planes and helicopters and the other end had been made into a full size replica flight deck. Back in the day they said the Hindenburg (Zeppelin) stuck out both ends. And yes, this is the airfield of the infamous crash. No, I wasn't there at the time. Hanger 3 was the site where they stored the remains of two Blue Angel F-4 Phantoms after they crashed nearby. I think this was the next to last F-4 incident before the Blues switched to the A-4 Skyhawk aircraft.

Friday doinz

 Started again on a historical (sometimes hysterical) document of the navy days. Do ok for a bit then get the shivers. 

I am not a fan of below 60 temps. At the poles fine, go below -60 if you want to, but not where I am, thank you.

Big fan of the northern lights, yes but not of the temps where you see them. In Iceland all of them I saw were in the purple ranges, no green or yellow. Go fig.

I never really was concerned with sharks in the ocean. I don't think I'm all that tasty.

I quit flying. I no longer have the patience to deal with the bureaucracy. Safest way to fly is mentally.

I believe. Not the government (ever), Jesus, yes.

Will AI take over the world, I think not. Not till it can eliminate humans. Oh, wait. Already in progress..

 Nope. Monday still works better....

Now that the madness of "elections" is past (for a couple of weeks anyway) how about we start holding politicians accountable for their actions. Not their moral actions as for the past groups ( After Bush 1 and especially Billy Bob and since ) as we have ignored the moral deficit displayed by all of them. But how about for the cost of existence. We have become a nation of governmental slaves instead of the government serving. The "middle class" supporting the rich and the poor. Farms are more and more going corporate and concerning themselves only with profit (shocker) while family farms continue to decline and are being forced to accept government controlled payments just to get by. Genetically modified crops, cows and poultry are the sources of food sold to us by the mega-stores and I gotta tell you, the end result of this setup isn't pretty. Start now as cost are only going to rise and the dollar is going to dilute. I would recommend getting a few bows and lots of arrows as the skills required to make you own will have to be relearned. They are much less noisy than guns and much easier on the meat. Also you will need to learn how to trust and be trusted. These skills are lost among most of society and will not survive extended anarchy. 

The only thing I see as surviving the collapse of this nation (and others) is The Word. The reason I say that is because the history of the world is has survived the fall of every empire since the time of the Messiah, no matter how evil the times were. It is evident that the rise and fall of nations is as the passing of wind by the world. Religions come and go but the Word endures. Islam, if you really look at the history, shows how it will tear itself apart in the same manner as has happened with Christianity.  Shiite has no tolerance for any flavor. I see the same amongst the groups who call themselves followers of Christ. Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox have little to do with each other. Northern and southern Baptist, England and Rome (since the pope said no to H8) separated over authority. Yet the Word lives on. Mankind has proven over and over again that we are doomed. The only way the world will unite is in evil (predicted in the written Word) and it will be called "good" (also predicted). The vision that Roddenberry looked for in Star Trek cannot be until ALL of mankind accepts responsibility for their actions. That means every person individually accepts responsibility for each and every action they take, whether good or bad or neutral. Doable? Nyet. Nein. Nope. Not in this generation, the next generation, or the generations after that. 

I have no hope for the world as a whole, but for those who study the Word, those who heed and apply the Word, those who do as the Word teaches, hope still lingers.

I believe in only one race, Human. I believe in one way, Jesus. I believe that in Jesus is the only way we have hope. I believe the entryway to the path of true peace is not closed as yet, but someday soon it will be closed. My intention is to be at the end of that pathway when that entryway is closed. I also invite you (as in everyone) to join me on the pathway. If you don't want to, your choice. I still love you but, like the Creator, I'll let you choose your own way. I wish you all peace, wisdom and joy.

 

 

 

It's an Oktober morgen.

 I have exceeded my allotted time on earth and still haven't figured out my calling. I wonder if this is why? Only two days from Novebre and eye kant help but wonder why no frost?? Guess it's time to pick the tabascos peppers and palant some turnups.

Whelll. 

48 years. Yep, 48. I've been married 8 years more than I expected to live. Physically I'm a wreck but still I'll keep on truckin' till God says come on home.

 

What do I see in life?? I see people pontificating in generalities where the specifics don't agree. I see hate mongering being exploited rather than addressed. I do indeed see a "Bad Moon Rising". 

Relationships between the races, religions, philosophies will not improve because no one wants truth, all want "My Way" and none of mankind (or animal or vegetative) want a place where different can abide side-by-side. 

For you atheist and agnostic, please ignore the next  bit: Since the time of the garden all of the earth has been a struggle for dominance. You want a plant based example, visit Alabama and check out the kudzu. Prefer an animal based example, walking catfish or pythons. Humanoid?? All governments established by people  are ample examples. Philosophies/religions as well. 

My observation is simply this: the seven "deadly sins" are summed up completely in "self." We are brought into existence by the actions of others. We leave existence by the actions of others. 

Our bodies (and I believe minds also) are not equipped to last more than a few decades and during that time-frame we grow in strength for a while, then our strength dissipates. Mentally the same thing occurs. We have become temporary even though man/woman were created to be of continuous existence. 

Back to the "7 Deadly": I have been a student of the book and letter collection that we call the Holy Bible. I have gone over most of it many times (Numbers always gives me trouble staying awake and the Song of Solomon confuses me a lot.) From the scripture one thing keeps coming up: neither the quantity nor the quality of the sin means a thing. Sin is missing the mark and the passing "grade" is 100%. Anything less is failure. When the creation tries to supersede the Creator, the creation will fall.  

 Was Enoch perfect? I have to say no, but God chose to make him so when God brought him (Enoch) to heaven.  Same with Elijah. If you look closely at the New Testament you see that Jesus was and is in charge. He had the authority to forgive the thief and note that it was on the one who accepted Jesus and he knew his destination for after his passing. This happened under the Law of Moses and the forgiveness received is the same forgiveness others were given during the time of Jesus' teaching. 

 Read the book before say anything. How do we follow the footsteps of the thief? How do we follow the "path" blazed by Yeshua (aka Jesus of Nazareth)? The answers are there between the pages. It's not that confusing but it does require more than 30 second sound bites. 

Take no one's word for it but search out the truth for yourself. That includes what I say. I am not offended  because I choose to not be offended. The world is full of selfish expression and I try to seek truth.

If my views offend you, why do you let them? I mean no one any harm.  I'd rather we have a meaningful discussion. 

Pink Floyd had it right. Time does fly..

 I know most people will disagree, but for me when it comes to Pink Floyd their best album was Meddle. Dark Side was the best engineered but number 2 for me. Wish would be #3 Wall and earlier stuff have good songs but not better overall. I will give Comfortably Numb props but the album doesn't give me the emotional range of their best. 

As for music today, eh! I guess you must think of me as olde. Fortunately I am not overly concerned. I have a lot of old stuff, including radio broadcast, that I can listen to anytime I like.  I've converted much of my tape collection to mp3 and can now have free flowing music for better than a week, probably closer to a month. I'm not positive but I think I have at least a week of Grateful Dead alone. 

Today's artist, Toby Mac is one. My Love listens to Muscadine Bloodline a lot and I find them to be as good as anyone out there. My biggest problem I suppose is that I prefer lyrics to be composed of something besides what I call "gutter talk". If you can't compose without what used to be called "cuss words", expletives, dirty language, whatever you want to call abbreviated expressions, then don't.  Reminds me of a Doonesbury cartoon where the moon is described by one person who has a way with words and a Califoniaese speaker says "Oh wow. Lookit the moon." But I digress:

 Don't ask me. That's just the title that popped into my pointy little head.

I keep thinking about those "Top Ten" shows and it bothers me more than it should. I guess the confining of an artist to a singularity of genre' bugs me most. I mean take Dolly (Parton) for instance: Country, why yes indeed, and rock, sure, couple of hits there. Children's songs, pop music. How about 3000+ songs she has written and no, I cannot name them all.  How many other artist get pigeon holed into certain categories and any music that doesn't fit the preconceived notion is generally ignored. I remember when MTv started up.  Did not realize at the time how prophetic Mike Nesmith  was and didn't realize what a forerunner of the 80's The Monkees were. Of course most people back then didn't think of them as real musicians but even then I knew there was more substance supporting the campyness than was generally realized.MTv did eventually recognized Audio Adrenaline as a viable video candidate (Big House). Late night videos in north Alabama gave me Nena's "99 Luftballons" (in Deutsch), 

I wonder how many people realize that The Archies were a continuation of The Monkees? Music videos had their beginnings in cartoons

Eye Was Rideing down the road

 Listening to some tunes on my phone (through the car/truck stererereereo, natch) and I still find myself amazed at the heavyness of the music done by Starflyer59. The singing is often subdued but the music is like a sonic flood that pushes you along. If you'd like a guide, look to Spotify or Amazon Music or Apple Music (maybe, I don't know). Select the albums "Gold" and "Silver".  Then buckle up because you need to hold on. I would say turn it up, but that isn't necessary, the sound will move you at low to medium volumes.

 Politics.

 The bane of freedom continues to plague us. It would behoove us to closely examine the actions of ALL our elected "officials" especially at this juncture of this nations precarious position in worldwide perception and our own history. Party in-fighting and denial of what is obvious combines with brain dead people and gives us a legislative cesspool of stagnation. With what we currently have in office we are looking at a national debt in the trillions and growing and personal accountability diminishing to the point of national anarchy may strike before the predicted 2043. Prepare people. Prepare or be swept into the bin. Depressing, isn't it?

It's The End Of The World as we know it....

 Sometimes I am entertained by list on tv and faceplantbook. In magazines and in the mail. I have to laugh as my other option is to cry. Brits pontificating about Elvis and BB King and completely ignoring some bands that were significant to my mind. I sat through the "top ten" program on AXStv and they definitely hear a portion of the music community but they also ignore some of us old folk. Psychedelic rock is poorly displayed with references to some of the major players but no or barely a mention of the heart of psychedelia. You have to include Grateful Dead in the discussion, along with many of their influences. Morning Dew (Bonnie Dobson) is an apocalyptic song the Dead covered and is as significant to the genre as Wooden Ships (CSN and Jefferson Airplane). What I haven't figured out is how Uriah Heep failed to get a mention. Demons and Wizards and The Magicians Birthday are to me extremely well done (and Prog Rock to me) and definitely falls into the psychedelic genre as well and far more listenable than some that they mention. If you happen to have some Yes albums and the Uriah albums I mentioned you will notice some similarities in the artwork. To me these people have a fixation on noise and show and that is the major factor to them. But that is what makes money, so art once again is ignored.

 My recommended listening is not what most would consider;

Uriah Heep : Demons and Wizards, The Magician's Birthday and Salisbury

Grateful Dead: Aoxomoxoa, Live Dead, American Beauty

Rush: I gotta give the Canadian props. 2112 (I forget. I don't own the vinyl)

Now with The Doors, I'm not a big Morrison fan. Ray and Robbie and John are the ones who got me interested in their music but as far as Jim, not my kind of poet. And no, his dad did not start the Vietnam conflict. Check out Ray's works post Doors. 

Of  Frank Zappa's works Apostrophe is the only one I can take. True, most of his work is sonic art but his choice of language I have problems with. I have the same issue with most rap, hip hop, and tiktok performers. That issue is with excessive profanity. I've heard most all of it during my 22 years of naval experience and I am still unimpressed by what seems to me to be a lack of thought being put into the works.

But that is me. As you might can tell I have issues expressing my thoughts coherently as well. But I prefer to not express myself profanely. Maybe I'll try composing my own top 10 list, but I might be better allowing for a top hundred selection as I tend to not separate into genres. To me there are two. I like. I don't like. That's all folks, to borrow a close.

 

104th annual Hoyt Family Picnic

 Well, we had over 40 this time, but under 50. One thing was this time we had some kids. Yes, they are as loud as we were at that age. Good times all around with good fish and chips and lots of delectable dishes. I don't think anyone left hungry. We had several people that haven't been in a long time and we missed some regulars.The Hollow handles the crowd well and the weather was tolerable (barely).  Is your life disappointing? You are not alone. Everyone has a disappointing life. It is my experience that life will always have disappointments. The thing is, since they are a part of life, don't give them the power to bring you down. Just accept that it is disappointing and beyond your control unless, of course, you made the disappointment happen. Then get a grip and get over it.
